My Eyes See With Joy
Jun. 10th, 2006 02:40 pmTaken from an Elfquest graphic novel, I believe that the above quote is probably the best summary I can come up with for the fact that having made our first ever entry onto the World Cup stage we've won a draw with Sweden a top ranked team. That is perhaps the greatest thing to happen for my country since our Miss Universe win by Wendy Fitzwilliam and our only Olympic Gold from Hasely Crawford.
I'm so proud right now that I feel as though I could burst. When our team came on the field and when our national anthem began to play, I cried for joy at the sheer fact that it was really happening, we were there and we were going to play.
The commentator pissed me off though when he called us minnows in the big sea of players but by the end of the game they were all shocked, amazed and astounded that we had held our own.
He kept calling it a great story and I couldn't help but shout at the screen that I was glad that he now knew our name...Bitch!!!
I mean really, must you try to judge what you don't know by making idiotic comments??? At least see what the players can do before you judge them and boy was he surprised. I loved the look of abject shock on the Swedish suppporters faces when they realised that they had drawn the match. My friends and I all laughed since one would think we had won when one saw how we celebrated after the game.
Trinis know how to party and have a good time but we also know how to accomplish our goals and this draw proves that we're a force to be reckoned with.
